A natural deodorant will not stop you from sweating, but it can keep odour under control by other means. You may notice that you still feel damp, especially in Indian summers. That is normal, not a fault in the product.
How do you choose a natural deodorant?
Read the ingredient list and check these points:
- Format. Sticks, creams, roll-ons, sprays and crystals behave differently. Sprays are the easiest to apply; creams and sticks last longer on skin.
- Active ingredient. Some use baking soda, which can irritate sensitive underarms. If you have had redness before, look for a baking-soda-free option.
- Fragrance. Essential oils can still irritate some skin. Choose unscented if your skin reacts easily.
- Clear claims. Be wary of sweeping safety words on the front of the pack; they tell you nothing about what is actually inside.

We do not recommend a recipe, because the quantities and the baking soda in particular can cause irritation, and homemade mixes have no preservative or testing behind them.
