Sustainable Kitchen & Dining Products in India
Kitchen and dining goods are where plastic accumulates fastest in an Indian home — storage boxes, scrubbers, cling film, disposable cutlery. This range covers longer-lasting replacements: stainless steel and glass storage, copper and brass serveware, coconut-shell bowls, wooden and bamboo utensils, coir and loofah scrubbers, beeswax-free food wraps and cloth produce bags.
Choosing well
- Steel grade. For storage and serveware, 304 (18/8) stainless resists corrosion from salt and acid better than the 202 grade used in cheaper ware.
- Wood and bamboo. Untreated or food-grade-oil-finished only. Wash by hand, dry upright, and re-oil occasionally; dishwashers split the grain.
- Copper and brass. Uncoated copper reacts with acidic food, so it suits water storage and dry serving rather than cooking curries. Tin-lined (kalai) brass is the traditional fix.
- Scrubbers. Coir, loofah and sisal are plant-based and compost at end of life, unlike nylon mesh.
- Food wraps. Check the coating — traditional wraps use beeswax; plant-wax versions are the vegan option.
