Description

Kashmiri Kahwa is one of the oldest ceremonial teas in South Asia — a spiced, saffron-scented cup served in the Valley at weddings, festivals and to guests. Most versions sold today use a commodity green tea base and skip the saffron. Lluvia builds theirs on Peony White Tea (Bai Mudan) with eight real ingredients, including actual saffron threads.

    What's in the Blend

    • Peony White Tea (Bai Mudan) — hand-plucked and minimally oxidised, mild enough to carry the spices instead of competing with them, and the lowest-caffeine tea base there is
    • Saffron — real threads, not colouring. The ingredient most Kahwa blends leave out
    • Cinnamon and cloves — the warm, resinous backbone of the cup
    • Black pepper and ginger — gentle heat and a clean, warming finish
    • Dried rose petals — a soft natural sweetness against the spice
    • Almonds — a light creaminess in the mouthfeel, so the cup feels ceremonial rather than medicinal

    How to Brew

Steep 2.5g in 200ml water at 80°C for 3-4 minutes. Do not add milk. Drop one saffron strand into the cup before pouring. Best after dinner or on a cold evening.

    FAQs

Why white tea instead of green tea?

Kahwa was traditionally made with minimally processed leaves so the spices could lead. Peony white tea is milder than green tea and does not turn bitter behind the saffron.

    Should I add milk?

No. Kahwa is drunk without milk, usually with a little honey or a saffron strand.

Is there real saffron in it?

Yes — actual saffron threads, not saffron flavouring or colour.

    Is it high in caffeine?

No. White tea has the lowest caffeine content of any true tea base.

Is Lluvia Kashmiri Kahwa tea plant-based and dairy-free?

Yes. The blend is white tea, saffron, spices, rose petals and almonds with no dairy, and Kahwa is drunk without milk. It does contain almonds, so it is not suitable for anyone with a tree nut allergy.

How many cups does the 50 g tin of Kashmiri Kahwa make?

At the recommended 2.5 g per 200 ml cup, the 50 g tin makes about 20 cups, which works out to roughly ₹22 a cup at ₹438. This is a calculated estimate based on the brewing instructions.

How should I store Lluvia Kashmiri Kahwa once opened?

Keep the tin sealed in a cool, dry place away from light and strong odours. Lluvia does not state a shelf life on the listing, so check the date on the pack label.

Can I drink Kashmiri Kahwa at night?

It is a good after-dinner or cold-evening cup. The Peony white tea base is the lowest-caffeine true tea base, though it is not caffeine-free, so very caffeine-sensitive drinkers may prefer a herbal infusion.
