- Description
- Additional info
- Roselle hibiscus — the culinary Hibiscus sabdariffa variety, not ornamental petals
- Whole-leaf green tea blended in for body and a softer finish
- Colour: deep ruby liquor with no added colouring
- Flavour: tart and fruity, finishing clean
- Excellent chilled or as a base for iced tea with mint
- Hibiscus roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa)
- Green tea
- 2.5 g in 250 ml water, just off the boil.
- Steep 4 to 5 minutes — hibiscus needs longer than most leaf teas to release colour and flavour.
- Strain. Do not add milk; the acidity will curdle it.
- Iced: brew double strength, cool, pour over ice and add mint.
- Type: hibiscus and green tea blend, loose
- Storage: airtight, cool and dry, away from sunlight
- Because the blend contains green tea, it is not caffeine-free — the hibiscus component itself is.
- The infusion is naturally tart; a little honey balances it if you find it sharp.
- Hibiscus stains cups and light fabrics, so rinse promptly.
This blend pairs roselle hibiscus calyces (Hibiscus sabdariffa) with whole-leaf green tea. The hibiscus gives the infusion its deep crimson colour and a tart, cranberry-like edge; the green tea rounds it out so the cup is not one-dimensionally sour. It is a good iced tea base and a bright alternative to fruit juice.

FAQs
Does it contain caffeine?
Yes, a small amount from the green tea. Hibiscus on its own contains none.
Why is it so tart?
That is the natural acidity of roselle calyces. Shorter steeping and a touch of sweetener soften it.
Can I drink it cold overnight?
Yes. Cold-brew 5 g in 500 ml water in the fridge for 6 to 8 hours, then strain.
