Cruelty Free Products in India — Not Tested on Animals

Every product in this range comes from a brand that does not test on animals at any stage, and none contain animal-derived ingredients. It spans beauty, skincare, hair care, household cleaning and fashion.

What "cruelty free" does and does not mean

The term is not legally defined in India, so it is worth knowing what to check. India banned cosmetic animal testing domestically in 2014 and banned the import of animal-tested cosmetics in 2014–15, which means a brand selling cosmetics here is already working under that rule — the claim carries more weight when it also covers ingredient suppliers and third-party testing.

Cruelty free and vegan are separate things. A product can be untested on animals and still contain beeswax, lanolin, carmine, silk protein, honey or shellac. If you want both, read the ingredient list rather than the badge. On EarthBased both apply across the catalogue.

Common animal-derived ingredients to look for

• Beauty — carmine (CI 75470) in reds, beeswax (cera alba) in balms, lanolin in lip and hand care.
• Hair care — keratin, silk amino acids, honey extract.
• Fashion — leather, wool, silk and shell buttons; cork, canvas and jute are the vegan alternatives.
