Vegan Moisturiser in India — Face Creams, Body Butters & Oils

Moisturising products do one of three jobs, and most Indian buyers pick the wrong category rather than the wrong brand. Humectants such as aloe and glycerin pull water into the upper skin layers. Emollients smooth the surface. Occlusives — butters and heavier oils — slow water loss. In humid coastal weather a gel or aloe-based mousse is usually enough; in dry winter air or in the north, a butter or oil layered over a water-based product works better.

What to check

• Skin type match. Gel and mousse textures suit oily and combination skin. Body butters are anhydrous and best for very dry skin, heels and elbows.
• Layer order. Water-based first, oil last. An oil applied under a cream blocks it from absorbing.
• Cold-pressed vs refined oils. Cold-pressed virgin coconut oil keeps more of the parent aroma and is less processed, but solidifies below about 24°C — that is normal, not spoilage.
• Fragrance is one of the more common contact irritants. If your skin reacts easily, prefer unscented or lightly scented formulations and patch test on the inner arm for 24 hours.
• Damp skin absorbs better. Apply within a few minutes of a shower rather than on fully dry skin.
