Vegan Hair Care Products in India

Vegan hair care means no animal-derived ingredients — no keratin, silk protein, honey, beeswax or lanolin — and no animal testing anywhere in the supply chain. Plant proteins from wheat, soy, rice and pea do the same conditioning job.

Choosing by hair type and water

• Hard water is the usual culprit behind dull, tangled hair in most Indian cities. A chelating or clarifying wash once a fortnight helps more than switching shampoo every month.
• Sulphate-free vs. shampoo bars: bars use soap-based surfactants and can leave residue in hard water. Liquid sulphate-free formulas rinse cleaner; bars win on packaging.
• Traditional wash powders — shikakai, reetha and arappu — clean gently without foam. Expect an adjustment period of a few washes.
• Oils: coconut is the only common oil shown to reduce protein loss in hair. Sesame, bhringraj and amla infusions are traditionally used for scalp massage.
• Read for: the full INCI list, a stated pH (4.5–5.5 for shampoo), and a manufacturing date. Avoid products making regrowth or cure claims — those need clinical evidence.
